Exchange is on win server 2008
I put migration tools on exchange server.
But on the second step ‘SOURCE’ ,to login exchange cannot pass.
I entery the exchange server IP but whatever I used domain user 'Administrator@****.com' OR local user 'Administrator' ,it's always 'Directory Object cannot be opened ,please verify the used admin cerdentials'
And I try to user the AD server IP ,when i used user 'Administrator@****.com' it's said 'please check the admin cerdentials for permissions/right to query the directory' , when i change teh local user 'Administrator' it's said 'Exchange mailbox profile creation error'

How can i solved it?

migration tool version is ZimbraMigration_8.0.5.993_x86.

zmmailbox postRestURL bottleneck ?

Hi all,

We are trying to move 650Gb of mailboxes from a ZCS7 server to a new ZCS 8/ubuntu 12 server.
We were told by zimbra support to use the restURL method as we don't want LDAP configuration restored.

It works fine, but it's slow.
We can't find why it takes so much time, as CPU and disks do not seem to suffer.

Let's take a 480MB mailbox, it will take 12 minutes to import

- with .tgz stored on NFS or local disk
- with 8 or 12 cores
- with or without antispam and antivirus started

We are using postRestURL with resolve=reset:

Code:

su - zimbra -c "zmmailbox -z -m $ACCOUNT postRestURL '//?fmt=tgz&resolve=reset' $1/$ACCOUNT.tgz";
Here are some stats (threaddump and ps -efL attached):

Code:

Anybody managed to increase import speed with this method ? At some point it looks like it's just slow even if you give it plenty of ram, IO and CPU.

Hi all. Hope everyone is doing great.
So, I'm developing a simple bash script to migrate my users to Zimbra. The task so far is just create some users account.
However, I just noticed that zmprov tool don't allow me to create users that have password too short.
I'm getting the following error message: ERROR: account.INVALID_PASSWORD (invalid password: too short)
Is there a way to ignore this limitation?
I do need to create users account regardless of their password's size.
Any help, please?

Thanks in advance. :)

Some calendar appointments lost during migration

Hello,

we are currently migrating from Exchange 2010 to Zimbra Network Edition 8.0.6 on Centos 6.5 64-bit.

We use command line migration tool to migrate all users' mailbox content (except spam). This includes also calendar appointments.

In testing there was no problem but in the real migration, we have encounter a several types of errors which lead to several appointments not being migrated.

The first one very common error is (appointment subject is "Get Ready for HP Converged Systems"):
Code:

Error on appointment Get Ready for HP Converged Systems -- system failure: writing invite to calendar item table: UID=040000008200E00074C5B7101A82E00800000000000000000000000000000000000000007E0000007643616C2D55696401000000303430303030303038323030453030303734433542373130314138324530303830303030303030304530444239463936373436444335303130303030303030303030303030303030313030203030303030353645363237463639413835433934424131303942353938374546454535393600
Another one is (appointment subject is "Priprava PPT na zalohovani" and "Cesta obsahuje neplatn├ę znaky" means in czech something like "The path contains invalid characters"):
Code:

Priprava PPT na zalohovani exception caught in ProcessItems->api.AddAppointment Cesta obsahuje neplatn├ę znaky.
And the last one is (God knows if this is related to any lost item at all, logs are quite a mystery):
Code:

CSmigrationwrapper MAPI edgecase MAPI Could not be returning all the items for the folder - Migration is not complete. Please re-run migration for the user
The two mentioned appointments as well the XML file used for command line migration tool can be downloaded here.

Also both the appointments can be easily imported vie zimbra web client so why the migration tool failed?

Any help is appreciated.

Godaddy hosted email migration to Zimbra Open Source

$

I have a project for a small business that's interested in moving their hosted email from Godaddy to a internal network server running Zimbra. I plan on securing a public IP from their ISP to be used as the A/MX record assignment under Godaddy's DNS zone editor, but I'm unsure what will happen once the switch is made with how Zimbra will be able to map user accounts from the existing Godaddy accounts. I'm looking for anyone that might have advice/experience with migrating a Godaddy hosted account to a standalone Zimbra host, or help point me to documentation that guides through this process. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks!

Existing Appointments Dropped While Importing New Appointments

I am working on migrating form our old Palm Desktop to Zimbra OSE 8.0.5. We are using Mac Calendar to view the calendar from Zimbra.

When I import the iCal-format files into Calendar (I have one per folder in Palm), everything imports fine. After I have imported about 200 appointments, however, I notice that some of the appointments imported in previous imports have vanished. I have been using the web interface to show me appointment counts in the various folders to validate that the counts in the other folders drops, confirming that the appointments are being removed from the server.

Thinking that the problem was Calendar, I tried doing the import using Zimbra's REST API. I get the same results.

My next thought was that there was something about the formatting that Zimbra didn't like, so I went through a process of importing one .ics from Palm then immediately exporting the same data to a new file. This gives me a new set of files that have all the appointments from Palm as exported by Zimbra. Trying to import these files yields the same results.

I have no idea what files to look at to try to find the error that is causing appointments to be dropped, and would appreciate any assistance in determining what is going on here.

Migrating from Zimbra 5 to 8

Hi all,

I have a big challenge that I need your help with.

I have recently joined a company that is running Zimbra 5 on CentOS 4.5 with roughly 200 accounts. These are mostly IMAP accounts that vary in size anywhere from 100MB - 9GB. I am mostly a microsoft guy and definitely a newbie in Linux and Zimbra environments. I have to admit that since using Zimbra, I absolutely love it and think it has a lot to offer and is a good substitute for Exchange.

I recently migrated a server from Zimbra 7 to 8 by using a combination of the migration wizard for transferring the user accounts as well as the Export/Import function to transfer the actual IMAP mailboxes from the old to the new server. Keep in mind that both servers were on the same LAN.

In the case of the 5 to 8 upgrade which is my current challenge and the reason I am writing this post, I not only have a version gap challenge, but also the server running Zimbra 5 is in a physically different location. My plan is to install Zimbra 8 on CentOS 6.5 at my location and then migrate the users and their emails over from the remote location over to Zimbra 8.

Again, I am fairly new to the Zimbra and Linux environments and would appreciate a really detailed and step-by-step instructions that would help me accomplish this. You can assume that I have access to the physical server running Zimbra 5 and can save everything onto an external hard drive. You can also assume that I can connect to the Zimbra 5 server remotely. Last but not least, I will setting up and running Zimbra 8 on CentOS 6.5 as a virtual server accessible via VCenter.

Thank you for all your help!

Migrated allday appointment shifted one day backwards

Hello,

we have just migrated few users' mailboxes from Exchange 2010 to ZCS 8.0.6. Among other issues we have just found out that all users' allday events are shifted one day backwards. So for example if there is an allday event on 20.1.2014 on Exchange, after the migration it is on 19.1.2014 on ZCS.

Why is this happening. I can only guess that there is an misunderstanding between Exchange and Zimbra time format so for example 00:00 is taken as 24:00 or something like that.

On both Exchange and ZCS we have set time zone GMT+1.

Thanks for any clue.

Migrating 2003 SBS Exchange

Customer has a broken exchange and we are migrating them over to Zimbra, Their profiles allow us to grab the info off their OST files in outlook and that seems to be working fine. The problem we had last night was Zimbra MST seemed to have crashed while running the migration on some of the larger mail boxes. I need to sort through the logs but MST crashed as soon as we started the migration so it seems linked at this point. Is there anything I can do config wise to stop this from happening? I have not touched any of the defaults in the server for message handling. I am running Zimbra 8.0.6_GA_5922.FOSS with Zextras 1.8.12. The server is pretty low usage 35 users so far running fine day to day.

The server has 8GB of RAM and a is a Quadcore Opteron VM.

I successfully migrated my Entourage contacts to Zimbra by exporting contacts as a .txt file, opening it in Excel and saving it as a .csv file. Pretty easy. I have no idea how to import my Entourage emails. They are not a server and only on my computer. I can set up accounts but they only import what is currently on the server which is nothing or next to nothing. Help?

Exchange to Zimbra migration story....

Hi all,

Recently i had a project to migrate all mailbox's from exchange to zimbra.
Here what i planned to do:
1. Export all PST files from all users outlook(almost Outlook 2010 32Bit)
2. On my computer installed Outlook 2010 64Bit and Zimbra Migration tools
3. Start to Import all PST's to zimbra mailbox's
But...
The fail counter goes much faster than mails that successfully copied!
and on the other hand in Destination mailbox(in zimbra) it creates like
INBOX_SUB DIR 1
INBOX_SUB DIR 2
INOX_SUB DIR 3
....
that really make me disappointed i feel like failed with zimbra migration tools

Any idea what can cause that fail counter moves faster than migrated mails?
I used Outlook 2010 32BIT to export and use Outlook 2010 64BIT + ZimbraMigration_8.0.5.993_x64, Does this 32bit export and using 64bit to import may make a problem ?
Should i use specially the Zimbra Migration tools that comes with my Zimbra image and accessible from Zimbra Admin Console or i can use what ever that match server version, for example for server Zimbra 8.0.5 can i use ZimbraMigration_8.0.5.xxx ?

Or if you had same experience or any solution please let me know :)

Thanks

I am using IMAPsync to migrate emails from SME 7 to Zimbra 8.0.6 OSE. It worked on my virtual box, but now I am trying to do it on a live install it seems to be failing. I was wondering if IMAPsync is best option for this.

The error I get is (Ive changed IP addresses and any user and domain names for security):

I have tried it with authmech1 and authmech 2. I have supplemented each with both plain and login in different combinations. I have checked user names and passwords and both correct. I have already moved the accounts over using zmprov, just need to move the emails over. At the moment I am testing it on 1 account which is my own so I know the password, I will be reseting everybody's passwords to a standard password and do imapsync using an automated script, we don't have many users so on a small scale its not going to have the issues than say a large user base! I have tried connecting using telnet. It connects but doesn't like any of the login usernames. I'm sure this will have been covered before so I will continue to scour the forums :)

I'm running IMAPSync off my desktop :)

Help with Migration using ZeXtras Migration Tool

Hi Guys,

I'm just new here. I want to make a backup email server using MX record. I have existing email running on Ubuntu 10.0.4 with Zimbra Collaboration Suite 7.2.1. Everything is fine on the current server but a backup mail server is necessary for my disaster and recovery. I came about ZeXtras Migration Tool but it's a trial for 30 days. Does anyone have use and tried successfully this third party solution to migrate existing mail server to new server? I'm doing a cloning of my old mail server hard disk (main) to test on my email server backup but I get a non-working clone. I have a new hard disk used but it won't boot after a successful cloning. Tried the old hard disk to boot and it was okay meaning the source disk is really working.

I hope anyone can guide me how to use the ZeXtras Migration Tool to migrate existing live server to my email backup server? If done successful, configurations will be next to synchronize mailbox of main email server to backup server. Thank you.

My migration from Zimbra7.1.4 to Zimbra8.0.6

Hi all i want to share my experience with all.

I had a Zimbra 7.1.4 server installed on Ubuntu ( dont remember version, but old ) on a vmware virtual machine. He had 2 eth setted up ( lan and wan)
About 1 month ago statistics stopped and all server show red X on status ( but mail server function ok) so i tryied all possible solutions readed on this forum but noone solve the issue.
So i decided to migrate new server.
This is what i did:

- Create new vm with ubuntu 12.04 minimal (last version)
- Put down WAN on OLD server
- Export all domain and users with ZxMIG (backup migration)
- Install new Zimbra 8.0.6 to machine with new WAN up ( install few more package that zimbra8 needed and setup eth, hostname and dns like old server )
- When finished i put down wan on new server
- copy backup migration to new server with LAN and import with ZeXtras (free)
- Set few parameters on new Zimbra server ( Like RELAY etc.etc. )
- Put on WAN on new server
- All OK, stats and status function good

Only thing to remember ... all my POP3 users that save mails on server redownload them.
All this.

Sorry for bad english!

Trying to automate migration from exchange

Hi All,

We are in the process of migrating from exchange to Zimbra (using the nice ZimbraMigration.exe tool).

The test migrations are working well apart from a few issues. When the users end up in Zimbra and I go into the administration page and look at the properties of their account - it's showing nothing in the First name, the account name is their AD username @mydomain.com (not their default e-mail address of first.last@mydomain.com), and the last name is the AD account name too.

I'm looking to migrate around 400-500 users and don't want to go in and have to change the account name, first and last name every time. I was looking at the zmprov tool to automate it, but it doesn't let me change the attributes: uid or mail

Is anyone able to suggest how I can migrate our users and either have the correct Account name, first and last name come across, or how I can automate the change of the fields after migration?

Thanks.

Issues migrating from exchange

Hi All,
We are currently moving from exchange 2007 over to Zimbra. Its all working fine so far apart from a few issues.

I'm migrating users using the ZimbraMigration.exe tool, which is working great, but the new user in zimbra is missing some information.
When it's created, there is nothing in First Name, the account name and last name is the AD username. I have to go in and add the users First and last names, and change the account name to be the primary e-mail address.

I've managed to script the changes for first and last names, but I can't seem to find a zmprov command for changing the account name.

I've got around 400 users to migrate and would love not to have to go into every user and change the account name.

Any help would be brilliant.
